Our Story
Josh and Carmen Costner have been long-time homeowners in Ocean Isle Beach. When Josh and Carmen noticed a need for more luxury vacation experiences in their beloved beach town, they decided to tackle this need with their passion for the short-term rental industry by creating Coastaway.
Josh and Carmen wanted to take a different approach to vacation homes with Coastaway. Instead of hosting guests in rentals that felt like the owner’s “second home,” they wanted each vacation rental to feel like a hotel — clean, clutter-free, and with fabulous amenities included.
They purchased and transformed a local cleaning company into Coastaway Property Services. The couple agreed that this gave them better control over the quality of the maintenance, landscaping, linens, and other details that can make or break a vacation home.

Josh
Josh owns one of the fastest-growing law firms across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas. He and his wife, Carmen, have been traveling to Ocean Isle Beach with their kids for several years. When they noticed the lack of luxury experiences and accommodations in Ocean Isle Beach, they were inspired to start Coastaway.
Carmen
Carmen previously worked in marketing for the Avett Brothers. She now coordinates the marketing and social media for Coastaway as well as all the interior design and graphic design for the company. She is the creative one on the team!
Alyssa
Alyssa graduated from UNCC with a degree in finance and a concentration in real estate. She started working as Coastaway’s administrative assistant in 2022.
