Summer is the peak season for Ocean Isle Beach, and for good reason. The average weather during summertime is hot and sunny, the water is warm, and there’s a vibrant atmosphere that makes for a fun-filled vacation.

With the weather boasting warmer temperatures on land and in the water this time of year, it’s the perfect time for families to spend time with children on a visit to Ocean Isle Beach, as there are plenty of activities and events geared towards kids, such as outdoor movies, live music, and fireworks displays.

The beaches can get busy during this time, but with a little planning, you can still find a secluded spot to enjoy the sun and waves, or to catch a nice rest napping in the balmy shade.

Even though high temperatures are the norm, the summertime in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina is also one of the wettest times of the year, with sun-showers and sudden downpours being fairly common, especially in late summer.

When it comes to Ocean Isle Beach weather, they say April showers bring May flowers, but down here, this is the time of year when rainfall peaks.

The late summer months are the wettest of the year, with August taking the title of Ocean Isle’s wettest month.

August has an average precipitation of 7″ of rainfall and an average 13 rainy days in Ocean Isle Beach, so if you’re planning on an August vacation, don’t forget to bring some crappy shoes for the kids for impromptu mud puddle dance parties in the warm rain.

One of the most popular summertime events in Ocean Isle Beach is the Summer Concert Series. Running June, July, and August, this free event takes place on Fridays at the Museum of Coastal Carolina and features local and regional bands playing a variety of genres.

Another highlight is the Ocean Isle Beach Fourth of July Celebration, which includes a parade, live music, and a spectacular fireworks display over the ocean.

Fall into Ocean Isle (September-November)

Fall is a beautiful time to visit Ocean Isle Beach, as the temperature is still warm, the crowds are thinner, and the scenery is breathtaking.

With the temperature ranging from the high 60s to the low 80s (15 to 26 degrees Celsius), it’s still warm enough to enjoy the beach and outdoor activities, but without the intense heat and humidity of summer.

Precipitation also starts to decrease in autumn, and though September is still somewhat wet, with an average of 10 days of rain per month, in general the rain, temperature and humidity start to subside significantly during October and November.

One of the highlights of fall in Ocean Isle Beach is the annual North Carolina Oyster Festival, which takes place in nearby Ocean Isle Beach Park in October.

This two-day good time event celebrates the local seafood industry and features live music, arts and crafts vendors, and, of course, plenty of delicious oysters.

Winter on the Strand (December-February)

Comparatively, Ocean Isle beach weather in winter is peaceful and tranquil, with fewer crowds, even less wind and rain than the fall, and a slower pace of life, and absolutely NO snow anywhere to be found.

Although the temperatures can dip into the 40s and 50s, it’s still possible to enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing, as well as indoor attractions such as museums and art galleries.

Furthermore, if you’re looking to save on a family vacation, you can’t beat the prices on lodging and entertainment in the Ocean Isle Beach off-season.

One of the highlights of winter in Ocean Isle Beach is the Christmas by the Sea Festival, which takes place in nearby Southport. This festive event includes a parade, a tree lighting ceremony, and a tour of historic homes decorated for the holidays.

Another popular winter event is the annual Day 1 Run and Polar Plunge on January 1st–New Years Day–where brave souls take a dip in the chilly ocean waters to raise money for local charities.

Spring into Ocean Isle Beach (March-May)

Spring is a lovely time to visit Ocean Isle Beach, as the weather begins to warm up and the natural beauty of the area comes to life.

With temperatures ranging from around 56 to 75 degrees (~13.3 to 24.3 Celsius), the mild weather and blooming vegetation really start to bring this quaint ocean town back to life.

However, the beaches are quiet and rain is at a minimum, making it a perfect time for a peaceful getaway, perhaps to experience all the local wildlife that begins to emerge, including sea turtles, dolphins, and shorebirds.

One of the most popular events in spring is the North Carolina Azalea Festival, which takes place in April in nearby Wilmington.

This annual event celebrates the warming weather and the blooming of the azaleas and includes a parade, a street fair, open houses at shops to browse, and a variety of other entertainment options.

Another highlight of spring in the Brunswick Islands is the annual Day at the Docks Festival in April, which celebrates the local fishing industry with live music, food, and fishing competitions.
